Childhood Trauma, Sexual Abuse, Spiritual Abuse, Grief and Loss, Depression and Hopelessness
Larry Van Liew was raised in a Christian home where faith was part of daily life. At age six, he was sexually abused by a high school boy. When he told his mother, he was shamed and told never to speak of it again. This led him to become a people-pleaser, seeking value by trying to satisfy God and others, yet never escaping deep shame.
As the pain grew, Larry began planning his own suicide, feeling hopeless and trapped. But he was led to a 12-week program called Mending the Soul, where he began to process his trauma. There, he discovered God’s love, value, and presence in a new way, finding hope and healing.
Today, Larry is a certified trainer and facilitator with Mending the Soul Ministries. Since 2010, he has led groups helping men overcome shame and trauma. He is also a certified facilitator for Men’s 33 and Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, trained in trauma and addiction, and serves as a Biblical Trauma Coach, helping men experience God’s redeeming love.
